Such is the name given by the farmers of Somerset and Gloucester shires to a beverage which they recommend to the especial notice of gentlemen who brave the cold in pursuit of sport.
“Cider and” (brandy understood) is composed of two-thirds of cider and one of brandy, sweetened with loaf sugar, and an aromatic flavour given by a plentiful allowance of grated nutmeg.
